Application Engineer

This role is intended for an experienced Application Engineer to design, build, and support the applications and integrations that connect our core business systems. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and enterprise operations — you’ll build REST APIs, integrate with ERP platforms, own deployments end to end, and help the team explore practical ways to apply AI to our engineering work. We’re looking for someone who communicates clearly, takes ownership of the systems they build, and is genuinely curious about new technology.
This is a hybrid position based out of our Southfield, MI office, combining in-office collaboration with remote flexibility. Specific in-office days will be coordinated with the hiring manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs that power internal applications and third-party integrations.
- Build and maintain integrations between business applications and ERP systems, ensuring data accuracy and consistency across platforms.
- Own the deployment lifecycle for the applications you build, including CI/CD pipeline design, automated testing, and release management.
- Monitor production systems, respond to incidents, manage issues against defined SLAs, driving root-cause analysis and durable fixes.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders — business, operations, and product teams — to translate requirements into technical solutions, communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Evaluate and prototype applications of AI tools and techniques to improve engineering workflows, application features, or support processes.
- Document APIs, integration patterns, and deployment processes for use by other engineers and support teams.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5–7 years of professional experience in application engineering, software development, or a related role.
- Strong hands-on experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and enterprise application integration patterns.
- Experience with CI/CD tooling and practices, and hands-on experience deploying applications to production.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and troubleshoot production issues against defined SLAs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Genuine curiosity about AI and a track record of learning and applying new technologies quickly.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with a specific ERP platform (e.g., Vista, SAP, any other construction specific ERP).
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience using or integrating AI/LLM-based tools into engineering workflows.
- Background supporting enterprise or B2B software environments.
