Rivian purchased the long vacant Diamond Star facility in Normal, Illinois to support production of the R1T, R1S, and RPV vans. Due to our demonstrated ability to organize and execute large, fast-track automotive projects, Sylvan was awarded the mechanical scope for two large facility expansions. Challenges facing the project included installing piping and HVAC units throughout the existing building and three expansion areas. Sylvan led the BIM modeling process for all trades.
Sylvan delivered the projects ahead of schedule with no safety incidents. Our team installed more than 6 miles of pipe, including Chilled Water, Weld Water, Compressed Air, and Natural Gas systems. We also furnished and installed 10 custom air handling units, 4 packaged rooftop units, 11 pumps, and a dedicated weld water cooling system. Sylvan is proud to have been part of constructing Rivian’s first production facility.
As part of a multi-year modernization program at a 3M sq. ft. automotive assembly facility, Sylvan provided complete General Assembly conveyor and tooling upgrades, along with the installation of a new Robotic Wet 3 paint system.
Sylvan is supporting a major automotive manufacturer’s $3 billion retooling project at its flagship Ontario assembly complex, a facility spanning more than 5 million square feet across nearly 500 acres.
Sylvan’s Service team completed a retrofit project to address water pressure issues impacting the facility’s cooling tower and chiller system performance.
